I am not a financial advisor, and the views expressed here are my own and do not represent the advice of a qualified financial professional. Beware, investing involves risks, including the potential loss of principal. “How do I buy eCash?” It’s a question I get asked regularly. If you’re lucky enough to have an account with an exchange that lists native XEC (not the fake Bep20 version), you probably don’t need to read this article. […]

読了時間: 7 Disclaimer: The following is for informational purposes only and is not intended as financial or investment advice. You should not rely on this information as a substitute for professional guidance tailored to your personal circumstances. Beware, investing involves risks, including the potential loss of principal. eCash is a cryptocurrency that was created as a fork of the Bitcoin Cash project on November 15, 2020. In this article you will find information on 10 different aspects of the eCash project to assist in determining its intrinsic value and future potential. Team: Development of the eCash protocol is led by Bitcoin ABC, which is the same team that previously created and led […]

The Beginning of a New Epoch

読了時間: 2 When moon? The age old question of our time. It’s the one thing every crypto enthusiast wants to know: when will their favorite coin pump, and by how much? A couple of days ago I posted a short tweet thread comparing how XEC has performed since the start of the year, versus the broader cryptocurrency market. What I found was that eCash, while not being among the worst performers, certainly showed room for growth. Considering all the recent technical progress made by the team, I admit it’s hard not to be disappointed. If you’d asked me what I thought the price of XEC would be after successfully launching staking rewards, […]

What will Milei do?

読了時間: 3 In case you haven’t heard, Argentina just elected the first Anarcho-Capitalist president in the history of the world, Javier Milei. If you’ve never heard of anarcho-capitalism, it’s a political ideology that seeks to eliminate the state, and provide all services through voluntary transactions in a free market without government intervention. Honestly, I’d never heard of anarcho-capitalists until I got into crypto. But over the last few years their vision of a world with rules, but no rulers, has grown on me. It remains to be seen how much Milei will actually be able to accomplish. His congress will be dominated by members from outside his own party. But it begs […]

On Culture and Governance, or: Comparing Open AI and eCash

読了時間: 3 Recently there’s been a lot of speculation about what happened behind the scenes at Open AI, the company behind ChatGPT. Here’s what we know. This past Friday, the 4 person board of directors fired the CEO, Sam Altman, and was immediately met with enormous backlash from both company insiders and outsiders alike. While no details have emerged as to exactly what led to the firing, chances are that the members of the board didn’t share Altman’s vision as to what was best for Open AI. I bring all this up because I couldn’t help seeing some parallels between Open AI and the eCash project. For example, in the aftermath of […]

eCash Staking Rewards 101

読了時間: 4 Now that staking rewards are live, I’m seeing lots of questions that can easily be answered as long as you have a little basic knowledge. Questions like how often can I expect to win a block? How do I participate? Why are the blocks so slow? This article will try and answer those questions as well as give people some basic information on how eCash staking rewards works, the minimum requirements to stake your eCash, and a few other things that might help answer any questions you might have. First and foremost, in order to participate in eCash staking rewards you will need a minimum of 100M XEC, and the […]

Celebrating 3 years of progress

読了時間: 4 As we witness the successful rollout of staking rewards on the eCash network (on what also happens to be the 3 year anniversary of the eCash fork), I thought it would be a good time to take a look back at all the progress that’s been made thus far. A lot has happened since the eCash fork was created on November 15, 2020. After forking away from Bitcoin Cash, the engineers of Bitcoin ABC had to start from scratch to build new infrastructure, an entirely new brand, and of course a new community. None of it was easy. Survival was far from guaranteed. And unlike other projects that have the […]

Everything you want to know about eCash staking rewards

読了時間: 5 In eight days, the eCash network will be undergoing its regularly scheduled semi-annual upgrade, except I would say this upgrade is anything but regular. That’s because once the upgrade is complete, there will be a radically new incentive structure in the eCash protocol. In addition to the IFP allocation going from 8% to 32%, which I’ve already written about here, the eCash protocol will be activating staking rewards for the first time in the history of any Bitcoin fork. What follows are some frequently asked questions and my answers to each: How do I stake my eCash? To stake your eCash, you will need to (1) run your own eCash […]

5M transactions per second: Part 2

読了時間: 3 As I said in part 1, I’m not an expert, I don’t have a technical background, but what follows is my understanding of some of the technical aspects of how eCash plans to scale from ~100 transactions per second, to 5 million transactions per second. It can only happen with huge blocks, of course, potentially even terabyte size blocks. In the last article we talked about the data storage bottleneck caused by such big blocks of data. Here in part 2, we will discuss the bottleneck caused by block validation and propagation. What is block validation and propagation? Block validation is the process by which nodes in a blockchain network […]

5M transactions per second: Part 1

読了時間: 3 The stated goal of the eCash project is to achieve 5M transactions per second, or 50 transactions per day for 10B humans on the planet. For comparison, Visa handles about 1700 transactions per second with claims that it can theoretically handle over 24,000 transactions per second. Basically, eCash is aiming for ~200x Visa’s theoretical limit. My goal over the next couple of articles is to explain in laymen’s terms how eCash will achieve 5M transactions per second. Let me be clear that I am not a software engineer, I don’t speak for the eCash project, and this is simply my understanding as someone without a technical background. I believe there […]
