Dad’s day off 2X

読了時間: 4 I’ve been a little stressed at work lately, so I decided to take a day off to watch “Dune: Part Two” in theaters. That was today. But then at the end of last week, I happened to see there was this Stand With Crypto thing in Hollywood, so last minute I decided to take yesterday afternoon off as well. I really had no idea what to expect at the Stand With Crypto event. I figured it would be relatively low key since it was on a Monday at 3pm. Of course in hindsight, I was an idiot for thinking Nas and Brian Armstrong wouldn’t draw a big crowd, especially with […]

On having kids

読了時間: 4 I wasn’t one of those guy who imagined himself with a family. I had a friend who always talked about having a bunch of kids when he got married, but the thought had never even occurred to me. Maybe because I thought I was going to die young. For some reason I’d gotten it into my head that I was going to die at twenty-seven like all those rock stars, even though I was nothing like a rock star. If not twenty-seven, then I figured definitely by my early forties, just like my father. The thing about growing up believing you’re going to die young is that you never think […]

Pickled: A Short Story

読了時間: 3 One of my most vivid memories growing up was something that happened to me in the seventh grade. I’d just started attending this new junior high school where I didn’t know anyone. To get there, I had to ride the school bus for over an hour each way since my stop just so happened to be the first one along the route. I shared the stop with this kid named Jason who was also in the seventh grade. But we couldn’t have been more different. I was a short, nerdy, and quiet with a bowl cut, whereas he was tall, popular, and athletic with beautiful blonde hair. I wouldn’t say […]

The Intellectual Property Question

読了時間: 6 Like most people, I never really gave much thought to the idea of intellectual property before. I just accepted it was part of our lives, and that it was really no different from regular property. For example, if you write a book, or a song, or discover a new drug that cures a disease, or invent some new technology that improves people’s lives, it made perfect sense that you, and you alone, should have the right to earn a profit from your creation. It’s what trademarks, copyrights, and patents are for, with the logic being that the absence of such legal protections would lead to fewer people pursuing such activities […]

On Fatherhood

読了時間: 4 A couple of months ago, I made my oldest son cry. Not just a few tears, but full on balling as if he’d been told his mom had died. It started in the car after I picked him up from tennis practice. I arrived a little early so I could watch, and let’s just say I expected more from him. I found myself getting frustrated with his effort and was convinced he wasn’t trying his hardest, not even close. As we walked back to the car I peppered him with questions. Why wasn’t he running faster, swinging harder, more focused? I guess I wasn’t satisfied with his answers because I […]

Turning over a new leaf

読了時間: 2 As some of you may know, I’ve been dealing with covid for the past week or so. At first I didn’t think it was covid at all since what I felt wasn’t flu-like symptoms, but something much worse. It started when I woke up in the middle of the night with severe vertigo. I felt like my brain was doing somersaults in my skull and, as if by reflex, all I could do was grab my head between both hands and lay there with my eyes closed, praying for it to stop. When it finally did, I felt so sick to my stomach I ran to the bathroom and started […]

eCash $XEC: Wen moon? A discussion on the price of XEC

読了時間: 8 So recently in the eCash telegram channel, there was quite a bit of arguing about how high people think the price of XEC can get, and how long it might take to get there. I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing since it implies people have high expectations for the project, but I also believe in the mantra, “if you are arguing, you are losing”, which is why I’m not here to argue with anyone, but I thought it might be interesting for me to organize my own thoughts on the subject. Before I continue, let me be clear that none of what I’m about to say is […]

Building the eCash Community

読了時間: 4 This wasn’t the article I’d planned on writing next. But the idea for this post came to me while watching Bitconned, the Netflix documentary about the Centra scam I recently reviewed. There’s this scene when the guy they hired to be their CFO–the former male stripper–is tasked with answering questions from the thousands of Centra investors who had joined their slack channel. Basically, his job was to keep the community happy. And despite what you may think, that’s exactly what it was, a community. A community is defined as “a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common”, and these people definitely had […]

Quick Review: Bitconned

読了時間: 3 I recently watched “Bitconned”, the new Netflix documentary about the con artists behind the scam cryptocurrency project Centra. I have to admit it just might be the best crypto related documentary I’ve ever seen. This despite the fact that the movie isn’t really about cryptocurrencies at all, but rather the sad state of our current society. If you’re looking for a documentary that teaches you about crypto, look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a documentary that tells a story that’s equal parts entertaining, infuriating, and illuminating, and also happens to involve crypto, this is the movie for you. With a running time of just 94 minutes, it’s a relatively […]

eCash and Mass Adoption

読了時間: 4 Many have asked how eCash will achieve mass adoption. While it’s impossible to provide a definitive answer, what follows are a few scenarios that I can imagine. Scenario One The first is what I would consider the most optimistic, and I will call it the Hayek scenario after the famed economist Friedrich Hayek, who said: “I don’t believe we shall ever have a good money again before we take the thing out of the hands of government, that is, we can’t take them violently out of the hands of government, all we can do is by some sly roundabout way introduce something that they can’t stop.” – Friedrich Hayek This […]
