In my last post I mentioned there are times when I’m practically bursting at the seams because I want to tell people about Bitcoin. The thing is, it’s not so much because I’m obsessed with Bitcoin, it’s because I’m so fed up with the state of the world. I’m tired of this lockdown, I’m tired of our shitty leaders, and I’m tired of everyone being so fucking apathetic about it all.
As a father of two young children, I want to be a part of the solution so that they have an opportunity to live a good life. I want them to be able to go outside and not be afraid. I want to be able to take them to the zoo and the museum and the amusement park like they’ve been asking me for months. I want them to be able to see all their friends as often as they want and have the opportunity to make new ones. But we can’t do any of that because our leaders have failed us, and perhaps more importantly, we have failed ourselves.
I believe we’re in the situation we’re in because we’ve lost our way. Everyone wants everything done for them. To be told what to do. No one wants to be held accountable. We’ve stopped working hard because we don’t see the point, and we don’t trust others because we don’t trust ourselves. It’s a cultural problem that needs to be fixed all over the world, and the reason I want to tell everyone I know about Bitcoin is because I believe it just might be the only solution.
It’s not going to be easy, and it’s definitely not just about number go up. While everyone focuses on the price of BTC, what they forget is that the real system requirement is proof of work. I know that’s only the name of the algorithm, but I believe it extends out much further than the network itself. Because if we don’t put in the work to make things better, it never will.
While Satoshi Nakamoto came up with the original breakthrough that is Bitcoin, what most people don’t realize is the amount of work left to be done in order to transform Bitcoin into electronic cash, or ecash. Some people think Bitcoin is meant to be digital gold and nothing more. A system that is only to be used as a store of value like the metal bars stored in vaults all over the planet. But that’s not going to change the world, and that’s not what interests me, or Bitcoin ABC, or the people who support the project currently known as BCHA.
We believe in a peer to peer electronic cash system that can become the best money the world has ever seen. Money that can act as both a store of value and a medium of exchange in a way that’s never been possible before.
But if we want to supplant the USD, or any other currency backed by the state, we must be able to scale in order to serve all of humanity. We need to advance the protocol so that transactions are reliable no matter how many people are using the network at a given moment. We need to build the infrastructure to onboard developers as well as users. But nothing builds itself. Everything decays unless we put in the work to go against our natural tendencies of wanting things handed to us.
This is why I’m such a huge supporter of the project led by Bitcoin ABC. It’s why I continue to write to spread the ideas that this project stands for. I want others to see for themselves how the project currently known as BCHA is unlike any other Bitcoin out there. It’s truly one of a kind, and I won’t stop until the message is heard by as many people as possible.
