The former being largely able to rest on its laurels as an established brand, whereas the latter is in a ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ situation.
Which of the two is poised to survive in the long run? That’s pretty clear. Having said that, brands are very, very powerful things.
Reminds me of what Pat Riley said while coaching the Lakers back in the 80s: “Hard work doesn’t guarantee you anything in life. But without it, you don’t stand a chance.”

Btw, Riley’s Lakers made the playoffs every year in the decade of the 80s, making the finals eight times and winning five championships (i.e. 50% of the titles).
