As I sit here writing this, I can hear my sons playing outside with the other neighborhood kids. Somehow they’re all boys. I’m lucky to live in a neighborhood where it’s still safe for the kids to play outside, where they can just be kids.

Maybe it’s like that in more places than I think. I hope so. I hope the world hasn’t gone totally to shit like I fear. But that’s why I’m here. That’s why I support the eCash project, because I want to make sure that doesn’t happen. I want to make sure we always have hope and freedom.

I consider myself fortunate to have grown up when I did. I feel blessed, and I want my sons to be able to say the same when they reach my age.

I remember one day when I was around my oldest son’s age now, a bunch of us hitchhiked to the beach. I remember taking the bus, boogie board in tow, then getting off and walking until a pick-up truck stopped and gave us all a ride in the back.

Back then there were no fears of getting abducted, or pedophiles, just the local strip club we would ride past on our bikes on the way to Taco Bell. I wonder what happened to all of those kids I grew up with. I hope they’re well.

(I’m happy to report that the Taco Bell and the strip club are still there 35 years later. I found it on Google Maps. If you want to see a picture, it’ll be 100 XEC)
